This past year has been a bit of an emotional roller coaster. In our efforts to generate both an active and passive income we have tested a lot of different methods just to see what we like including: PPC/CPA, Affiliate Marketing, AdSense, PLR, online shop, etc.

We have also spent a lot of money on the courses and programs we believed would help us achieve our financial and lifestyle goals. Honestly, we have forked out more money than we wanted to. Having said that, if it wasn’t for those courses and programs we would not have understood just how big this whole field is and how complicated it can be. And we would not have had the experience in trialling which styles of working online best suit our personality. We are strictly service type people – we are not turned on by PPC PPV even though a lot of people make really good money with them – for us they are too mechanistic. We prefer to develop meaningful products and services. We have learned to switch off from the marketing – you have to because there are new products coming on line all the time being marketed by great marketers. When you scratch the surface though many of them are more like the Emperor’s New Clothes than the exciting new product they are marketed as.

What is the most important lesson we have learned in our first year? Things always take longer and are harder than they are advertised as and you have to know and be able to apply some basic principles before you can succeed on line.
