Affiliate Marketing
Hi All
No doubt by now you have all heard about the new guidelines that come into effect on December 1st 2009, yep the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Testimonials and Endorsements in Marketing. These new guidelines are changing the Affiliate Marketing landscape and some of us say ‘its about time!’. Marketers most affected will be those working in the US market as other major nations such as the UK and Australia already have some advertisement and endorsement guidelines.
Lucky for us we are members of Tru-Guru and as a consequence we subscribed to Matthew Bredel blog site “inside the marketing mind”. Anyway, Matt undertook an interview with a corporate lawyer called Linda Goodman a well known Internet lawyer/attorney from TheGoodmanLawFirm.com. Matt and Linda had a lengthy discussion on the changes and the effects of the new guidelines on affiliate marketing. Matt has generously allows us to download a copy of the interview so you can hear it yourself…

Essentially the changes means that there will be more attention paid to truth in Internet advertising – Yahoo! We were thrilled when we heard the news because we had been scammed by those infamous flogs ourselves – when we were very new to the Internet. And think about it – more and more are coming online every day… Internet virgins are ripe for the flogging – so to speak. Anyway – for our money’s worth, honesty is just the right thing to do. Thinking about it, because we are on the net, in a kind of hall of mirrors, marketers need to be even more honest – if you know what I mean… because of the medium. Folks cannot see, touch, examine the product. So we have a duty of care to make sure people make as an informed choice as possible… anyway back to Matt.
Though we have never met Matt we know he is an ethical guy. How? Well apart from anything else, he was the only guy (until today our time) that has taken the time to try and explore or explain what the looming changes actually mean. Until today the other marketeers mentioned the changes but none had gone to the trouble of sharing that knowledge with members. And, when we contacted him and asked if we could use his interview he made every effort to help us. The more people who know about this the better. BTW today (Aussie time) The Arbitrage Conspiracy hosted a webinar about those same issues. Unfortunately I missed it but it will no doubt have been recorded. We will let you know when we hear anything about that – the more information and points if view the better.
Remember, the new laws come into effect from December 1st 2009 – so hold onto your hats. It will be very interesting to see how many offers are left in the CPA networks then huh? how many sell their products before it come into force !!!
